Revenue
A sales agent is useful when it owns a result the seller no longer has to rebuild.
Most sales AI sits beside the pipeline and drafts text. The stalled work is still there: an incomplete account packet, a follow-up that did not go out, and a CRM that does not match reality.
<40%
of sellers are expected to say agents improved productivity, even as agents outnumber sellers.

How I see it
Give an agent a sales result, not a writing job
An agent is a different path from a copilot. It is responsible for a completed artifact: a researched account ready for a call, a follow-up sequence that actually ran, a prioritized working list, or a CRM record that reflects the last conversation.
Sellers stay on the relationship, the price exception, and the commitment. The agent should not unsupervised-promise a customer. It should make the seller faster on the work that is not the relationship.
For Miami companies in distribution, specialty finance, professional services, and hospitality, the first production agent is often follow-up and account preparation. An autonomous closer is a later, higher-risk design.
Treat this as an operating system change for one outcome, not a seat license. You need an owner, a definition of done, evaluation on real accounts, and a way to see cost per completed packet.
Where the cost sits
Agent cost per resultbuild and run cost ÷ completed packets or follow-ups, including review time
If review consumes the recovered seller hour, you did not create capacity. You moved the work.
Is this your problem?
Five signals the cost is already real.
What completed result would you give an agent this quarter?
If you cannot name one sentence, you want a copilot, not an agent. Will the agent write back to CRM, or leave a side artifact?
A side artifact becomes another reconciliation job.Which customer actions require a seller?
Name those control points before you design autonomy. Can you evaluate the agent on last month's real accounts?
A demo book is not an evaluation set.Who owns the agent after the build?
Without an owner, the agent becomes an orphaned integration.
What done looks like
The result, not the category.
A solution is finished when a named result no longer waits on reconstruction.
Recover the seller hour
Research, CRM hygiene, and list-building stop consuming the week before the first conversation.
Sellers spend the recovered hour on live accounts, not another tool.
A copilot drafts emails while the CRM stays stale.
Own one follow-up result
The next action happens without the seller rebuilding context from notes, email, and a forecast spreadsheet.
A named follow-up completes and is logged.
The agent produces activity the seller still has to redo.
Change the working list
Priority and next action update from what happened, not from last week's slide.
Managers run from a current list.
Another dashboard that does not change who gets called.
What usually fails
How solution shopping wastes a quarter.
Calling a copilot an agent
If a seller still has to assemble the packet and send the mail, you bought a writing tool.
Letting the agent talk to customers unsupervised too early
Revenue conversations are high-error-cost work until the packet and policy are tight.
Measuring activity instead of completed results
Drafts, scores, and summaries are not outcomes. Packets sent, follow-ups completed, and CRM records updated are.
This is not the problem if
Do not start with a category purchase.
- The pipeline is empty and the problem is demand.
- Leadership wants an unsupervised closer in the first release.
- CRM will not be the system of record.
- Nobody will own evaluation after launch.
