Revenue

Most sales teams do not need more activity. They need the next right action to happen without waiting on research.

10×

more AI agents than sellers by 2028. Fewer than 40% of sellers are expected to say productivity improved.

Gartner, July 20261

Leads and accounts stall because sellers reconstruct context, write follow-up, and update CRM instead of having the conversation that moves revenue. A writing assistant beside an unchanged pipeline does not fix that.

How I see it

Seller time is the constraint, not another activity target

Sales productivity is a capacity problem before it is a conversion story. If twenty sellers spend a third of the week on research, data entry, and chasing internal information, that is a large annual cost before anyone models lift.

Miami distribution, specialty finance, hospitality, and professional services feel this as stalled follow-up and thin account packets. The CRM is supposed to be the system of record. The truth is usually in inboxes.

AI is useful when it produces a working list, a researched account packet, a completed follow-up sequence, or a CRM that reflects reality. It is decoration when it drafts emails nobody sends or scores leads nobody works.

Baseline seller time, follow-up lag, and conversion on the book you already have. Add conversion lift only after the capacity number is real. Do not start with an unsupervised closer.

Where the cost sits

Seller capacity

sellers × hours on research and follow-up × loaded cost = the first sales-productivity surface area

Add conversion lift only after the capacity number is real. Do not start with a fantasy revenue model.

Is this your problem?

Five signals the cost is already real.

  1. How much seller time is spent researching and updating systems?

If it is a large share of the week, the first target is clear.
  2. Where do leads die after the first touch?

Follow-up gaps are often more valuable than new lead sources.
  3. Is CRM the system of record, or is the truth in inboxes?

If sellers will not write back, software cannot keep the book current.
  4. Which actions require relationship judgment?

Those stay human. Everything else is a candidate.
  5. Can you baseline conversion, cycle time, and seller capacity?

If not, you will not know whether AI created revenue or noise.

What done looks like

The result, not the category.

A solution is finished when a named result no longer waits on reconstruction.

01

Recover the seller hour

Research, CRM hygiene, and list-building stop consuming the week before the first conversation.

Done when

Sellers spend the recovered hour on live accounts, not another tool.

Not done if

A copilot drafts emails while the CRM stays stale.

02

Own one follow-up result

The next action happens without the seller rebuilding context from notes, email, and a forecast spreadsheet.

Done when

A named follow-up completes and is logged.

Not done if

The agent produces activity the seller still has to redo.

03

Change the working list

Priority and next action update from what happened, not from last week's slide.

Done when

Managers run from a current list.

Not done if

Another dashboard that does not change who gets called.

What usually fails

How solution shopping wastes a quarter.

01

Buying a copilot that writes emails nobody sends

If the sequence, CRM, and owner are unchanged, you added drafts to a stalled process.

02

Starting with a fantasy revenue model

Model recovered seller hours first. Conversion is a second term, and it is easy to invent.

03

Leaving CRM optional

An assistant cannot operate a pipeline that does not exist as data.

This is not the problem if

Do not start with a category purchase.

  • The pipeline is empty and the problem is demand, not workflow.
  • Sellers will not use CRM and leadership will not require a system of record.
  • The company wants an unsupervised agent talking to customers on day one.
  • Activity targets matter more than completed next actions.
